Two Things You Can Do Now To Protect Your Credit

First of all, we hope you and your family are safe and healthy.

Our goal is to provide resources that can help you preserve a healthy credit score while navigating the complexity of the COVID-19 pandemic. Everyone here at Premier Credit Consulting is invested in providing supportive and helpful resources.

If you’re wondering how to protect your credit score while working from home or during sick leave, we have a few recommendations:

  1. Be proactive and contact your creditors. Most, if not all, of your lending institutions are invested in your overall ability to repay your debts. We recommend that you get proactive if you’re concerned about your ability to pay your debts. Ask your creditors what options are available if there were to be an emergency, as well as what information you would need to provide to them. Reacting after an account is past due or derogatory can limit your options in the future.

  2. Freeze your credit reports with all three credit bureaus. There seems to be a heightened threat of identity theft during national emergencies and recessions. You can protect yourself by freezing your credit reports from any new inquiries.

These are two things that you can do today that are free and take very little time. Be sure to check your credit regularly to avoid any new derogatory items or identity theft.
